The spark of my desire to investigate this brand was the 2022 release of Balenciaga’s “destroyed sneakers”. These sneakers were overly distressed and honestly looked like they had been in a fire, yet they were selling for $1850. I respect fashion as an art which is always objective, but I felt like this was disrespectful considering there are people all over the world that don’t even have shoes. Balenciaga is one of the most influential designers of our current time putting them in a position of power. Over the course of the next ten weeks we will be investigating Balenciaga’s movements as seen within the media.
